Endodontic Surgery
Although there are several surgical procedures that might be performed to save a tooth, the most common is known as an apicoectomy or root end resection. This procedure might be performed in instances where inflammation or infection persists in the boney area around the end of the roots.
Endodontic surgery allows us to locate small fractures or hidden canals that were not spotted on x-rays or during prior treatment to prevent future reinfection. The gums are then sutured back into place with several sutures to help with healing. While the incision heals, it is normal for there to be slight swelling or discomfort, however, you will be given the appropriate medications to minimize this possibility.
At any time before, during and after the surgery, Richmond Hill Endodontics will always be available to answer any of your questions or concerns.
